Photograph taken on September 28, 2023 shows floral tributes placed near the Whitgift Centre, on Wellesley Road, in Croydon, south London, where 15-year-old Elianne Andam was stabbed to death on her way to school earlier that day. The 11 years old pupil was killed getting off a bus and whilst trying to protect a friend. A 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged with murder and possession of a bladed weapon, namely a kitchen knife, in a public place. Elianne's aunts said Elianne wanted to become a lawyer to "defend the voiceless She doesn't like injustice; she likes justice for people. Every time she'd get in trouble [it was] fighting for someone else." The Metropolitan Police recorded 110 homicides in 2023 in Greater London, one more compared to the year before. Of the 110 homicides, 71 of them were committed using a knife, and 21 concerned teenagers. A number that highlights an increase of 50% on the total number of teenage homicides compared to 2022.
