An Indian barber shaves a Hindu pilgrim's beard prior to taking a dip in the Gangasagar some 180 Kms south of Kolkata on January 13, 2011. A large number of Hindu pilgrims have started to converge for the Gangasagar Mela which will culminate on January 14, 2011 on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, a holy day of the Hindu calendar, during which taking a dip in the ocean at the confluence of the River Ganges and the Bay of Bengal, some 150 kms south of Kolkata, is considered to be of great religious significance.
